Charity Cricket Game - Sunday 19th July 2009
Paul grew up playing for Halesowen Cricket Club’s youth teams and continued to play for senior teams when back from leave. By way of a memorial, a select Halesowen XI play an annual match against the Royal Navy. Previous years have seen Halesowen take the Bragging Rites, but the Navy are determined this year to change that The day will be a fun-packed event including the main cricket match, BBQ, Tombola, Royal Navy photographic display, raffles, charity auction, fabulous evening entertainment, refreshments, surprise event and more! Sunday 19th July 2009 Halesowen Cricket Club, Seth Somers Park, Gates will open at 12 noon, with official proceedings starting at 1pm. The cricket match will start at 2pm. Read the memorial by David Homer written for the day here The action-packed day at Halesowen Cricket Club, Seth Somers Park, off Grange Road, will also include a charity auction after the match, with a wide range of donated lots up for grabs, including cricket memorabilia. The full details of activities for the day are still being finalised.
Halesowen Cricket Club’s Ken Webster said: “Hundreds mourned Paul’s passing at St John’s Church in Halesowen, and we all wanted to do something special in his memory. “The memorial cricket day promises to be an ideal tribute to Paul. We encourage people, whether or not they knew Paul, to come along to support what will be a fun and action-packed day that will hopefully raise a lot of money for two excellent charities. “We’d like to say a special thank you to local businesses and everyone who has pledged donations and support so far.” Paul’s father Brian McCann said: “On behalf of Paul’s mum Pauline and myself, I’d like to say thanks to all the members at Halesowen Cricket Club, and a special thank you to those involved in the management committee running the charity and organising the event.” For more information on this event, please email webmaster@fundforneedychildren.com or call Rob Round on 07711 758670.
